Rye jazz enthusiasts are pleased to announce the birth of the Rye Jazz Society, to meet the needs of jazz in the area, to keep informed of concerts gigs and tours and, if needed, to arrange Community Transport to and from the events.
News will be constantly updated on our website www.ryejazz.co.uk and backed up by newsletters and any available printed information. It will be a non-profit organization with a Constitution, Committee and Banking facilities. They have launched with a £5 per family fee but hope to encourage sponsors and advertisers. Members will be entitled to discounts at events and bands or artistes advertising with them will have access to a quality audience which will raise confidence in jazz in this area.
Longer term plans are to co-sponsor jazz fundraisers and ultimately launch a bursary or scholarship scheme to encourage worthy talent.
On Sat. 31st July they are holding ‘Jazz on the Grass’ (formerly at Wittersham) being held at the Rye Rugby grounds, New Road, Rye. Forthcoming events include the regular 1066 Friday sessions with high quality National Jazz Bands and the Monthly modern and contemporary sounds at the Angling Club on the sea front in Hastings. The Pete Burden Organisation, which plays essentially bebop jazz, will perform at The Rooms, Western Road, St Leonards on the following Thursdays: 8th July, 22nd July and the 5th August all  from 9pm to 11pm.

The Jazz Caverners tell us it was good to be back in Hastings playing at the Crown in All Saints Street in the old town Hastings last month. They always look upon Hastings as home as it was the Caverners birth place.
On Sunday the 4th of July they are on the bill with the Cajun Dawgs, Doctor Savage, Acadian Driftwood and Jumbo Gumbo at the Waterfront Sovereign Harbour in Eastbourne.
They will be at the Plough in Udimore 1pm-3pm Sunday 18th July then The Inn in the Park Deanland Golden Cross 8.30pm till 11pm on Friday 23rd of July.  The Expedient Brass Band is in the Bexhill Carnival 24th of July and in the Hastings Carnival on the 7th of August.
In August you can see the Jazz Caverners at the British Queen Lower Willington on the 15th July 1/3pm and at the Red Lion Upper Willington 30th July 2/4pm.

On the first and third Mondays of every month you will find Jazz at the Royal British Legion town hall square in Bexhill.

Sat. 17th July the Hot Club of Hastings Gypsy Jazz & Café de Paris will be playing at the Brazz Bistro from 1pm at the Eastbourne Enterprise Centre.

More Jazz Breakfast events are planned by St. Mary in the Castle Friends at St. Mary in the Castle, Pelham Crescent Hastings. On Sunday August 8th 11am Gala Jazz Breakfast for the Old Town Carnival Week with Liane Carroll, Roger Carey, Mark Fletcher, James McMillan.  On Sunday October 17th, 11am Jazz Breakfast for Hastings Week featuring a morning of Mirth and Mayhem with Herbie Flowers and Mike Hatchard.
