Comedy now plays a big part of the entertainment in our area. Here is just a few items on, in the forthcoming month.

St. Leonards Improv Comedy Club ‘SLICC’ is the longest running permanent comedy club in St Leonards and comedy nights are held on the second Friday of every month at The Crown House, 57 Marina St Leonards.
SLICC features stand up acts from the UK stand-up comedy circuit and local newcomers plus news review, joke competition and open mic so if you fancy a go, just make yourself known to Kim or Jacqui. The next event is Friday 9th July with double headliner Lou sanders. Lou sanders is a writer, stand up and actor. She has just written for and starred in a BBC3 sketch and stand up show called Laughter Shock. She performs stand up at the Comedy Store, university gigs and the odd Turkish restaurant. In 2008 Lou won a competition and was selected from hundreds of hopefuls to do the Pleasance Comedy Reserve, a comedy showcase of new stand ups. It was an experience, mainly a terrible one, for herself and the audience. But just like others, she came back from the brink, better, stronger and a little bit thinner.
Also on the night ‘Naz Osmanoglu’, winner of the Amused Moose Laugh-off Competition and Runner-up in So You Think You're Funny, Naz Osmanoglu, has hit the London comedy circuit running. Already a fringe veteran with acclaimed, irreverent sketch trio WitTank, he is now diverting his angry Anglo-Turkish energy to stand-up as well as sketch comedy. Doors open 8pm Tickets on the door: £5 (concessions £4).
The MC will be the irrepressible Suzi Payton so we may well see an appearance of the state-side phenomenon, Polly Parton - Not to be missed! Lou, Naz and Suzi will be supported by Anton Hammond, Angela Barnes and other acts from the comedy circuit.

On Friday 13th August Richard Rycroft plus Support, Richard Rycroft is a nice middle aged bloke who's been an unknown actor for over ten years and a popular stand-up since August 07, regularly gigging all around the country. Popular with students and oldies alike, he has performed around 300 gigs, in independent comedy clubs (often seen as a strong, reliable opening act) and for major promoters such as Laughing Horse, Mirth Control, The Other Side, Hilarity Bites, Death By Comedy, Electric Mouse and others. His first solo show, The Songs I’ll Never Sing was performed at the Brighton Festival Fringe in 2010. He has also performed at the Hay on Wye Comedy Fringe Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Pink Festival, Cambridge and the Hull Comedy Festival Fringe. Venuu in George Street Hastings, enjoy hosting a wide range of events including regular comedy club nights like 'Stand Up Tuesday', cabaret.

On Tuesday 6th July Phil Nichol a truly unique performer, an acclaimed actor, award-winning comedian, producer, presenter, writer and musician, there is no end to his talent.
With a surreal edge to some of his mischievous rantings, Nichol always brings something new to the stage; his keen sense of fun and eye for the shocking and absurd has cemented his position as one of the best comedians on the circuit today.

Tuesday 13th July is Josh Howie an ex-public schoolboy, raised as a Buddhist who then trained as a Rabbi before being kicked off the programme for being caught with a naked (non-Jewish) girl, so perhaps it was inevitable that he would go on to become a stand-up comedian. Josh integrated these stories into his hugely successful debut solo Fringe stand up show, entitled Chosen which played to sell out audiences and received rave reviews at this year’s Edinburgh Festival followed by a sell out run at the Soho Theatre.

Tuesday 20 July: Paul Sinha has spent much of the previous decade gathering rave reviews for his self-deprecating tales of his life as a GP, lovelorn gay bachelor, quiz fanatic and social coward. An international stand up comic of many years standing, having performed in all major comedy clubs in the UK, as well as China, Auckland, Singapore, the Middle East, South Africa, Netherlands and Germany. Paul is always in great demand, whether on TV shows such as Edinburgh and Beyond, World Stands up, Comedy Shuffle and Comedy Cuts, on Radio 4's Loose Ends and the Now Show, or his numerous contributions to Radio 5 Live and Talksport.

Tuesday 27th July, Jim Jefferies the Alcoholocaust, Born in Perth, Western Australia, Jim Jefferies trained as an opera singer before turning to stand-up. He has appeared in festivals across the world as well as TV stand-up shows. In 2007, he was punched on stage at the Manchester Comedy Store, and the video of the incident became a worldwide hit on the internet. He supported Dennis Leary at the New York comedy festival the same year; and the following year landed a pilot sitcom with Paramount Comedy. He was nominated for best headliner in the 2008 Chortle awards. He was born Jeffries but had to add an 'e' to his surname to avoid confusion with an American performer of the same name.
